About Us

Founded in 2025 by Loki Visser, a Waste Analyst and Book Lover, Eco Read is a sustainability-driven initiative on a mission to rescue books from landfill and put them back into the hands of readers. In Australia, over 20,000 tonnes of books and paper are discarded every year, while one in five children lack access to books at home. We exist to change that.

We work with libraries, op shops, book stores and the general public to intercept books before they’re thrown away. Every book we save is either resold at affordable prices, donated to schools and literacy programs, or responsibly recycled if beyond repair. By doing this, we’re not just reducing waste—we’re making sure stories stay where they belong: in the hands of readers who need them.

Sustainability and literacy go hand in hand. That’s why 10% of our profits go toward youth literacy initiatives, ensuring more children get the chance to discover the joy of reading.

Our vision is simple: no good book should ever go to waste, and no one should be without access to stories. Join us in building a future where every book gets a second life, and every reader gets a fair chance.

Together, we can turn the page on waste.

We believe all readers can embrace the joy of reading, can define their future through stories, and can change their world through knowledge.
